Will we recognize our loved ones in heaven?

The Straight Answer

Scripture doesn't say this explicitly in so many words, but several passages strongly suggest recognizable, personal continuity, not a loss of identity.

The Supporting Evidence

In Matthew 17, at the Transfiguration, Peter, James, and John recognize Moses and Elijah, two men who had died centuries and roughly a thousand years earlier respectively, without ever having met them or seen an image of them. In Luke 16's account of the rich man and Lazarus, both retain clear personal identity and memory after death. Paul describes believers as a great cloud of witnesses in Hebrews 12, language that implies ongoing, distinct personhood.

The Honest Limit

None of this is a direct, explicit statement that says you will recognize a specific loved one. It's a reasonable inference built from several supporting passages, not a verse that answers the question outright.
