Does the Bible contain contradictions?
The Straight Answer
There are real places where accounts differ in detail, and most are explainable as different perspectives or purposes rather than genuine logical contradictions, though a few remain genuinely harder to fully resolve.
A Common Example
The Gospels describe different numbers of angels at Jesus's empty tomb, one in some accounts, two in others. This likely reflects different narrators focusing on different details of the same scene, not a real contradiction about what happened.
A Genuinely Harder Example
Some numbers and chronological details differ between the books of Kings and Chronicles, and scholars have proposed various explanations, including copying errors in ancient manuscripts, without full agreement on every case.
The Honest Middle Ground
Treating every apparent difference as a devastating contradiction overstates the case, but treating every one as fully and easily resolved oversells it too. Some are easy, some are genuinely harder.
